This was one of the first major projects I built at One Hat One Hand. I worked as the Project Manager, Floor lead, fabricator, and led the install team on site. I ended up building and traveling with this set for six different NFL events over the years. Here is the project description from the One Hat One Hand website:
“In partnership with New Creatures, One Hat One Hand built a festive nacho stand for the attendees of Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara, California.
Using reclaimed redwood and other repurposed building materials, we created a one-of-a-kind pop up restaurant and lounge highlighted with splashes of bright colors. Custom furniture, a space-efficient kitchen design, and neon signs completed the look.
This piece has since travelled nationally for many other NFL draft events.”
I worked on this project in 2016 as a Project Manager, Floor Lead and fabricator with One Hat One Hand. The theme for the year was cutouts and the booth housed custom art creations made of hand cut materials. See the project description from One Hat One Hand below:
”Since 2013, One Hat One Hand has worked to bring 21 Pop’s pop-up gallery to the forefront of San Francisco’s most prominent design event, FOG Design+Art. As a San Francisco Museum of Modern Art fundraiser, proceeds from the FOG Preview Gala and Fair support SFMOMA’s California-wide exhibitions and education programs.”
This was a huge project for One Hat One Hand. I worked as a Project Manager, Floor Lead and fabricator on this project. See below for the project description from One Hat One Hand’s Website:
“When the Monarch Management Group (Micah Byrnes, Manny Alfrez, Chris Smith, and Tadd Cortell) decided to turn the former home of Mighty into San Francisco’s first cocktail bar / nightclub hybrid, we jumped at the chance to not only create a fantastic space, but also to partner with them on the project. Crew member Laura Stevenson took the helm, working closely with the owners to develop a comprehensive interior design look with multiple focal points and lots of details.
The aesthetic is slick, futuristic Art Deco style. From the dance floor to the bar, elaborate design work highlights each area. The monumental stained glass installation above the Daylight Bar features custom artwork by Alberto Ybarra. Reactive LED lighting, an aerial rig over the stage, a separate Goth Bar, and a massive video projection wall complete the look of this iconic venue.
Our venture has so far been a great success: the venue has featured many local and nationally known artists including Amon Tobin, Dead Mau5, and Beats Antique. “
I worked on this project with One Hat One Hand as a Project Manager and fabricator. This was one of the first permanent interior design and build projects I worked on with One Hat One Hand. See below for the project description from One Hat One Hand’s website:
“For the custom interior design of John Hancock Digital’s new work space, we were excited to explore new materials and methods in an effort to create something totally unique.
One Hat One Hand took this project from concept to install. We worked with our client through a variety of distinct concepts, before landing on one inspired by indigo and the elements of water, air, earth and fire. The design language included perforated CNC patterning and indigo finishes, green spaces, and fiery textiles. This language brought a marriage of the traditional and the modern; material selections such as ½” steel connoted wrought iron, which was then laser cut to a custom design. One Hat One Hand created a concept driven space while tying in existing design threads used by SF based Ohio Design and tailoring the functionality to our client’s needs.”
I worked on this project with One Hat One Hand as a Project Manager and fabricator. See below for the project description from One Hat One Hand’s website:
“One Hat One Hand recently teamed up with TH Productions to create an immersive tasting room experience for Botanist, an Islay dry gin brand known for its hand-foraged aromatics. We detailed their distillation process through Wild, Foraged, and Distilled displays, and created a Local Market, where guests could choose their own cocktail ingredients.
The featured exhibit is an interactive display with 31 rotating panels illustrating each botanical used in the creation of the gin. Fresh floral arrangements added an extra sensory experience, while a custom built bar helped the brand engage with retailers, distributors, and craft cocktail makers from around the country.
The customizable activation traveled with the Botanist team on their four city tour starting in San Francisco and visiting Dallas, Chicago, and New York for the brand’s kick-off in America. Formerly available only in Europe, Botanist gin is now retailing in select shops in the States.”
I made this box and designed these rings for our 1 year anniversary. I made the box out of a solid piece of wood. I then laser etched the top of the box with the text “AS1”. This stands for Aaron Sara One Year. It also says “as one”. Bottom of the box was painted with crackle paint and dry brushed to create the look of desert playa. I painted tiny figures to look like Sara and I at Burning man. I strategically placed tiny wires so that the rings would stand up on their own as if they were monumental art pieces in the desert. The rings were designed in Rhino and printed in wax by Shapeways. Shapeways then casts the rings from silver through a lost wax casting process. They came out perfect. The rings have AS1 engraved on the band and also have a series of 365 through holes around the band to represent all of our first year days together. We decided to design a ring every year and that each year would have that number of materials. Our second year is bronze and silver and was designed as 2 pieces that interlock and stay on our fingers when worn.
I love giving handcrafted custom gifts. This gallery shows an assortment of gifts I have made for friends over the years. There are all sorts of projects like belt buckles, jewelry, dioramas, and gift boxes shown here.
